Thank you for participating in Space Week.
Space Week runs from October 4th to 10th annually and is a time for us all to engage with Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths, through the inspirational topic of Space. It’s a time to reflect on our awe-inspiring Universe, and our place in it.
How to get involved:
- It’s up to you to decide how best to use the resources below, but as a guide, we suggest that participating libraries create a small display of Space-themed books underneath the Space Week poster we’ve included. You can then offer Space Week bookmarks, colouring sheets, and activity sheets to any patron who visits during Space Week.
- If you run a regular family story-time session, consider making the story about Space during Space Week.
- Do you run STEM, STEAM, or art clubs with the local community? Why not make them Space Week events by asking participants to use space, rockets, or aliens as their inspiration during Space Week?
While Space Week runs from October 4th to 10th, it is perfectly acceptable to allow this promotional event to run for a few days on either side of those dates. The goal here is to encourage your patrons to use the resources you already have (Books, DVDs, etc.) on the theme of Space, Astronomy and Physics.
We have included a selection of printable resources below. We hope you’ll make use of them. We will be also be mailing Space Week bookmarks to a selection of libraries around the country.
Space Reads Poster
The Space Reads poster is a great anchor for all your library’s space resources. We recommend you hang the poster in your dedicated Space/Science section, or create a temporary display for the duration of Space Week. Download here.
Colouring Sheet
This sheet, designed by an astronomer at MTU Blackrock Castle Observatory, is bold and fun while featuring lots of cool space “easter eggs” such as an eclipse, a solar system, a comet and even the famous James Webb Space Telescope. Download here.

These word searches are just the right balance of achievable and challenging to keep young minds engaged.
