Astrophotography Club Ireland and MTU Blackrock Castle Observatory are thrilled to announce the Space Week 2024 Astrophotography Competition – Sponsored by Ktec Telescopes

The competition will take place online via Facebook. To enter, simply upload your photo as a reply to the following post on the Astrophotography Club Ireland page, and mention which of the below categories you wish to submit your image at the submission link. Please also offer a short description of your photo for context. SUBMISSION LINK

Competition Categories
  • Aurora Borealis and/Or Nightscape
  • Solar System
  • Deep Sky

One winner will be announced for each category.

Prizes:

Each winner will have their photo printed and hung in a gallery at MTU Blackrock Castle Observatory.

Each winner will receive a family pass to visit MTU Blackrock Castle Observatory.

Winners will have the opportunity to take part in a private, behind-the-scenes tour of the Observatory and to see the telescope and camera system used by the Observatory’s astronomers.

NEW for 2024! One of the three winners will be selected by a panel of judges as the overall winner. This lucky person will receive a €300 voucher for Ktec Telescopes!

Rules for submission

  • Images need to have an element of Astrophotography. This can be either aurora, nightscape, landscape with sky, planetary, lunar, solar or deep sky. 
  • Winning images will need to be submitted to organisers in full resolution for printing purposes.
  • Maximum of 5 images per person can be submitted (if more are submitted then the last 5 will be used for submission).
  • Images will only be selected if taken from the island of Ireland.
  • Closing date for submission will be 15th of Oct 2024 at 5pm.
  • The competition organisers will review all submission and winner swill be announced during Science Week 2024.

Please note the following:

  • Only one print will be made of each selected picture – the photographer retains copyright of the image.
  • The winning images may be used for the promotion of this competition in future iterations.
