This reception and information evening will help teachers to incorporate space education resources into their lesson plans. The evening will feature speakers from space education backgrounds, as well as a live astronomy demonstration*. Participants will have the opportunity to preview the Chasseur de Nuit exhibition at CIT Blackrock Castle Observatory.
This event is suitable to primary and secondary teachers.
Speakers on the night include:
Pedro Russo, Leiden University. Pedro leads the Astronomy&Society Group. Dr. Russo was the global coordinator for the United Nation’s International Year of Astronomy 2009. Pedro is involved with several international organisations, like the International Astronomical Union, European Astronomical Society, Europlanet (European Planetology Network), the International Astronautical Federation. His work has received several awards, such as Seeds Special Award 2009, Scientix Best Educational Resource in 2015 and 2016, Most Innovative Educational Activities in 2017 and 2018 by HundrED and 2018 Leiden University’s K.J. Cath Prize.
Stephanie O’ Neill, ESERO Ireland – Stephanie will be discussing space projects and resources available through the European Space Education Research Office, Ireland. Stephanie has an extensive backbround in education, and engaging students/teachers in STEM related projects.
