Cork Concert Orchestra are delighted to present a musical journey from Gustav Holst to John Williams – all in a space themed context. With stunning visual backdrops specifically designed and produced by NASA’s Goddard Space Centre for Holst’s Planets, the orchestra musically paints the characters of Mars, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and with the voices of Capella Lyrica choir – Neptune.
The orchestra will be conducted by Brazilian based maestro Neil Thomson who has previously joined us for Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, Dvorak’s Symphony No.7 and Mahler’s Symphony No.1.
The music will be introduced on the night by Elmarie Mawe outlining the journey from Holst’s Mars to Williams’ Imperial March from Star Wars along with highlights from ET and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. To do the repertoire justice, Cork Concert Orchestra have constructed an orchestra of 105 players and are delighted to be joined both on and off stage by Capella Lyrica Choir for Holst’s Neptune and Rig Veda.
